Plenty of buyers would rather pay with PayPal than type in a card number. And plenty of sellers do not have a PayPal business account, or cannot get one in their country. The good news is that Whop processes PayPal as one of its own payment methods. The less good news is that Whop's docs describe two different PayPal setups, and sellers mix them up. This guide sorts out what is confirmed, what is not, and how to set it up.
Short answer
Whop's Local Payment Methods page lists PayPal as a payment method Whop offers at checkout, alongside cards, ACH, Cash App and crypto. It says these methods need "no additional setup" and appear automatically when the buyer is eligible. So based on that page, your buyers can pay with PayPal on a Whop checkout and the payment is processed by Whop like any other method, without you running your own PayPal integration.
Separately, Whop's Payout Methods page describes an optional PayPal payout setup. That one does need you to link a PayPal account, because it is about where your money goes, not how buyers pay.
What Whop's docs confirm
From the Local Payment Methods page:
- Availability: global.
- Currencies: USD, EUR, GBP, SEK, NOK, CZK and 13 more (19 in total).
- Amounts: from $0 up to $1M.
- Fee: 3.49% + $0.49 per payment. That is higher than Whop's 2.7% + $0.30 domestic card rate, so factor it in.
- Works for one-time payments and recurring subscriptions.
From the Create a Checkout Link page: PayPal is one of the options under Payment methods when you set up a checkout link, so you can turn it on or off per link.
From the ExpressCheckoutElement docs (for embedded checkout on your own site): PayPal appears "where the seller accepts it", opens in its own window, and saves the buyer's PayPal account so renewals and later charges work like a saved card. All wallet buttons, PayPal included, need your domain registered as a verified payment method domain. Whop's own pages are pre-approved.
Whop has also talked about PayPal on X: in March 2026 it said you can embed payouts "via ACH, crypto, Venmo, and PayPal".

The PayPal payout option (needs a PayPal account)
Whop's Payout Methods page says that to receive PayPal payouts:
- Go to Dashboard > Balances > Additional payment methods.
- Select Setup next to PayPal and link your PayPal account.
- Customers must buy using PayPal. Whop does not transfer other payments to PayPal after the fact.
The same page adds: "For PayPal to appear at checkout, check the PayPal box under Payment options when you create a checkout link."
What we could not verify
We want to be straight about the gap. The two docs pages do not say clearly whether PayPal shows at checkout for a seller who has never linked a PayPal account. At least one seller posted on X in September 2026 that Whop asked them to create and link a PayPal account when enabling PayPal on an embedded checkout. We could not find an official Whop announcement that settles it either way.
So before you promise PayPal to buyers:
- Create a test checkout link and look for the PayPal option under Payment methods.
- Open the link from a browser where you are not logged in to Whop and check that PayPal shows.
- If Whop asks you to link an account, that is the payout setup described above. Contact Whop support if you need PayPal without linking one.
We will update this post if Whop publishes a clearer answer.
How to set it up (step by step)
- In your Whop dashboard, create or edit a checkout link.
- Under Payment methods, make sure PayPal is checked.
- Save, then test the link as a buyer would.
- If you embed checkout on your own site, register your domain as a payment method domain so the PayPal button can render. See Whop checkout on GoHighLevel or your own site.
Make the PayPal fee pay for itself
At 3.49% + $0.49, PayPal is one of the pricier ways to get paid on Whop. Two ways to make up for it:
- Sell more per order. With OneClick Upsell, buyers can add an order bump or accept a one-click upsell after checkout, charged to the same card or wallet without retyping anything. One accepted upsell usually covers the extra fee many times over. See how to add one-click upsells on Whop.
- Keep subscribers paying. PayPal subscriptions can fail when a buyer's funding source changes. Our sister product WhopMail can start an email flow when a Whop payment fails, so buyers fix it before Whop cancels. See Whop failed payments and cancellations.
