How to Add One-Click Upsells to a Whop Product

Two ways to upsell on Whop: the native locked-app upsell and a full one-click funnel with downsells. Setup steps, offer ideas and pricing rules.

The best time to offer something else is right after someone buys. They have just decided you are worth paying, their card is out, and they are excited. A one-click upsell turns that moment into a second sale without sending the buyer through checkout again. On Whop you have two ways to do it.

Option 1: Whop's native upsells (locked apps)

Whop added upsells through a feature called locked apps. An app in your whop can be Draft, Visible or Locked. A locked app can be free (with a whitelist) or paid (one-time), and a paid locked app can be offered in one of three places:

  • Before checkout: the app shows as an add-on on the checkout page. This is Whop's version of an order bump.
  • After checkout: the app is offered on an upsell page right after purchase.
  • Inside your whop: members see it as locked in the app list and can buy it later.

To set it up, open the app's settings, set Visibility to Locked, choose Paid (one-time), enter a price and pick the upsell method. You can customize the after-checkout page with a title, a short description (up to 180 characters) and a 16:9 video from your store's Upsells settings.

Good for: selling one extra app, such as a bonus course module or a template library, to new buyers.

Limits: the upsell is an app inside your whop, priced one-time. There is no chain of offers (for example a downsell when someone declines), and it lives on Whop's checkout rather than your own site.

Option 2: A one-click funnel with OneClick Upsell

If you want a sequence of offers, or you sell from your own website, use an app built for funnels. With OneClick Upsell the flow looks like this:

  1. Install the app in your Whop company. Your products and plans sync, so there is nothing to copy over.
  2. Create a funnel and choose the main product buyers check out with.
  3. Stack the offers buyers see after they pay: an upsell, a downsell if they decline, and cross-sells. Add an order bump at checkout if you want one. AI can draft the offer page, and you can edit every word.
  4. Choose where checkout runs: keep Whop's checkout and send buyers to your upsells after they pay, embed the checkout on your own site with one script, or share a hosted checkout page on your own domain.
  5. Publish and track views, conversions and revenue for each step, and send purchases to your Meta Pixel and Conversions API.

Every upsell charge is a normal Whop payment to your company, so payouts, refunds and memberships work as usual. Buyers who paid with Apple Pay or Google Pay can take the upsell with one tap too.

What to offer

The upsell should make the thing they just bought work better or faster. Good examples:

  • Course buyers: templates, a workbook, or a group Q&A call.
  • Community members: an annual plan at a discount, or a smaller paid cohort.
  • Software buyers: a higher usage tier or a setup service.
  • Coaching clients: a recorded audit, or extra sessions at a package price.

Avoid offering something that makes the first purchase feel incomplete. "The real course is in the upsell" leads to refunds and disputes, and on Whop each dispute costs $15.

Pricing rules that hold up

  • Keep the first upsell under the price of the main product. A $47 add-on after a $97 course is an easy yes. A $497 offer right after a $27 ebook rarely is.
  • Use the downsell for people who say no. Offer a smaller version, a payment plan or a lower price on a lighter bundle.
  • Watch the fixed fee on tiny offers. Whop charges 2.7% + $0.30 per domestic card payment, so a $5 upsell pays about 9% in fees. Bundle small extras as an order bump instead.
  • One clear offer per page. One headline, one benefit list, one button, one "no thanks" link.

Measure it properly

Track two numbers per funnel:

  1. Take rate: the share of buyers who accept the upsell.
  2. Average order value with and without the upsell.

Change one thing at a time (price, headline or the offer itself) and give each version enough buyers before you judge it. If the upsell takes buyers' attention away from accessing what they bought, keep the page short.

Follow up by email

Some buyers will skip the upsell and come back for it a week later. A short email sequence that reminds them, with a one-click buy button, catches those sales. WhopMail covers how to split offers between checkout and inbox in checkout upsells vs email upsells.
