An order bump is a checkbox on the checkout page that adds a small extra to the order before the buyer pays. "Add the bonus coaching call for $29" with a tick box is the classic example. It is the lowest-effort way to raise average order value because it needs no extra page and no second decision later.
Two ways to add an order bump on Whop
Native: a paid locked app set to "Before checkout." In your whop, open an app's settings, set Visibility to Locked, choose Paid (one-time), set a price and choose "Before checkout." Whop then shows that app as an add-on on the checkout page. Whop itself describes this option as an order bump.
App-based: OneClick Upsell. OneClick Upsell adds checkbox order bumps to its checkout, which you can keep on a hosted page, put on your own domain or embed on your own site. You choose whether the bump sits above or below the payment form. The bump is one of your Whop plans, not only an app inside the same whop, and it works alongside the one-click upsells that come after payment.
What makes a good bump
A good bump is:
- Small next to the main price. Common practice is somewhere between 20% and 50% of the main product's price. Treat that as a starting point to test, not a rule.
- Obviously related. It should make the main purchase faster, easier or more complete.
- Understandable in one line. Buyers decide in a second or two. If it needs a paragraph, it belongs on an upsell page instead.
Examples that fit Whop products:
| Main product | Bump |
|---|---|
| $97 trading course | $29 trade journal template |
| $49/month community | $19 recorded onboarding workshop |
| $27 ebook | $12 checklist and swipe file |
| $199 software license | $49 priority setup |

Write the bump copy
Keep it to three parts:
- A checkbox label that states the action: "Yes, add the trade journal for $29."
- One sentence of benefit: "Log every trade in the same format the course uses, so you can review your week in 10 minutes."
- The price, again, plainly. No fake "was $99" anchors. A made-up original price hurts trust when buyers notice.
The fee math on small bumps
Whop's base fee is 2.7% + $0.30 per domestic card payment. When the bump is added to the same checkout, it is part of one payment, so the $0.30 is paid once for the whole order. Sold as a separate transaction, a $12 extra would pay $0.62, more than 5%. That is one reason small add-ons work better as bumps than as standalone purchases.
Where the bump goes
- Close to the payment button. Buyers who scroll past it never see it.
- Above or below the payment form, depending on how long your checkout is. On a long form, below the fields and right above the button usually gets noticed. On a short form, either works. Test it.
- One bump per checkout. Two or three bumps turn a quick decision into a menu.
Bump, then upsell
A bump and a post-purchase upsell do different jobs:
- The bump catches buyers who want a small extra right now.
- The upsell offers something bigger after the money has gone through, when the buyer is committed.
Run both, and keep the offers distinct. If the bump is a template pack, the upsell should not be the same template pack at a different price. The step-by-step setup is in how to add one-click upsells to a Whop product.
Measure it
Look at:
- Bump take rate: the share of orders that include the bump.
- Average order value: with the bump on versus off.
- Refund rate on bumped orders: if it rises, the bump may be confusing or overpromising.
After checkout: email
Buyers who skip the bump are still good prospects for it a few days later. A short follow-up email works well for this. See WhopMail's guide to email marketing for Whop communities for the emails to send after a purchase.
